Belief
Here at Highlands, we believe that God is present in all of creation and that everything that God has made is a reflection of the Divine image. We believe Highlands is a sacred place where people of all faiths are welcome to explore their connection to the Holy One by engaging with nature. Even as we are rooted in the Christian faith and grounded in the Reformed Tradition, we believe that our guests and campers learn faith traditions best when instructed by their particular faith leaders. Our call is to embody and exemplify Christian principles, offering grace, welcome and hospitality to all.
Location
Highlands is a Presbyterian Camp and Conference Center located on 293 acres in the magnificent Rocky Mountains of Colorado.
Our Conference Center is the locus for meetings large and small, with generous guest rooms that can accommodate as few as one guest or as many as four. All meals are prepared and served in the Conference Center. Every meeting room offers breathtaking views of the mountains as well as local flora and fauna, which include deer, moose, big-horn sheep and black bears. The variety of birds that call Highlands home is nothing short of spectacular.
A Brief History of Highlands
In the early 1900s, Miss Augusta Mengedoht managed a cluster of summer rental cottages close to the mountain community of Allenspark.
After World War II, Presbyterians in northern Colorado began searching for a place in the mountains where young people could attend summer camp. They discovered that Miss Mengedoht’s mountain retreat was for sale, and in 1945, 49 acres were purchased, and Highlands Camp was born.
Highlands grew through the years, adding neighboring properties as they became available. This growth increased the acreage from 49 to 293. The Retreat Center was built in 2002. This beautiful facility includes 24 sleeping rooms, an administrative suite, reception lobby, three spacious conference rooms, and a brand new, full commercial kitchen.
Highlands’ roots run deep in the Presbyterian/Reformed tradition, and today we welcome all faiths, creeds, traditions, ages, abilities, nationalities, genders and gender expressions. Highlands is a sanctuary for all.
